June 15, 2015, 2015 - PPM - Jenn(d)er Bender

This week’s PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the Bruce/ Caitlyn Jenner story.

I don’t care if a man becomes a woman, a woman becomes a man, or that Facebook now offers 58 gender options.

I don’t care that the national media, not just the “Life and Style” media, but the national networks and cable news channels, have had non-stop coverage.

I don’t care that this gender reassignment was all probably done to make money on a reality channel or to sell magazines.  Let’s not forget how Kim Kardashian got her start. I’m sure there are many trailer park moms and dads kicking themselves today because their children didn’t think to hit the “record” button.

What I DO care is that ESPN decided to honor Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner their 2015 Authur Ashe Courage Award.

I haven’t seen an undeserving award of this magnitude since Barrack Obama was nominated (and eventually won) the Nobel Peace Prize after only 2 weeks in office in 2009.

There were so many more deserving candidates:  any wounded warrior, anyone now endangered by their religious beliefs, and especially someone who valiantly fought for their life against a terrible life threatening disease, including Lauren Hill.

ESPN has lost all credibility. But the impact doesn’t stop there.  They have lessened the merits of all previous Courage Award winners and they have also tarnished the legacy of Authur Ashe.

Additionally what does it say to the family of Kimberley Howe.

Howe was killed when Jenner struck Howe’s vehicle and propelled her car into another lane and she was killed in a head-on collision on February 7, 2015.  Jenner gets a “Courageous Award”, Howe’s family is left with an empty chair at the family dinner EVERY NIGHT.

Well done, ESPN. Well done.

June 8, 2015 - PPM - Gender Politics

Here's my PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) - Gender Politics

As we head into this election season, can't we just elect the best PERSON?

Already, Hillary Clinton is playing the GENDER CARD.  She is emphasizing that it would be historic to elect a WOMAN.

Let me remind you:

What  peeves me more is how two women candidates, one Democrat, the other Republican are handled by what should be the most non-biased media of the political spectrum, the Associated Press:

Hillary played the victim card in her New York Senatorial  election in 2000 against Rick Lazio. She will pull out that playbook again in 2016 when she feels "threatened" by a stronger, probably male candidate.

There is a 40-42% of the electorate that will support Hillary even though emails will indicate she is a fraud, corrupt, and complicit in the Benghazi tragedy.  The only hope is not enough, uninformed voters will vote like they did in 2012 because of an entitlement promise like Obamacare or an Obama-phone.

June 5, 2015 - Friday Funny - I Want It All

Here is an actual email I received from my young daughter.  It should be noted our yard already has a pool, a two story tree house, a zip line, a labyrinth, a golf chipping area, and a garden:

"I think It would be nice to get some add ons to the tree house. Some of the following maybe.
~A hammock
~I know we can do another story so what if we expanded the  story?
~I am not sure about this one, but what if we put a roof over the second floor?
~A brake from the zipline, I looked at the bungee brake and It seems to me like it would throw me off the zipline. I think as solution would be keeping a container of the little stoppers, because they slowed me down gradually.

I am very grateful for my tree house and zipline, so we don't have to do any of these things. If we wanted to do these things, we could do them over the summer or spring break. Oh and here is the link for the bungee brake

My response was:  "Your email is very important to us.  It will be responded to in the order it was received.  Please note, if you visit our web site, most of your questions may be answered."

She wasn't happy with my response.  She will be LESS than THRILLED, when she has to deal with real customer service agents.

June 2, 2015 - LOSER - Wally Pipp

The week we will not celebrate the LOSER OF THE WEEK.  We will instead commemorate what happened 90 years ago on June 2, 1925.

The LOSER the first week of June 1925 was Wally Pipp.

Pipp showed up at Yankee Stadium on June 2, 1925 with a headache, and asked the team's trainer for two aspirin. Miller Huggins, the Yankees' manager, noticed this, and said "Wally, take the day off. We'll try that kid Gehrig at first today and get you back in there tomorrow."

Gehrig played well and became the Yankees' new starting first baseman for the next 2,120 games.

The rest, as they say, IS HISTORY.

Whenever any of my ball players have a minor injury, I always say fine.  I put in another player and announce to the umpire that they are going in for Wally Pipp.  They say, "Who is Wally Pipp?"
I say GOOGLE it.

They miraculously recover.
