Oct. 31, 2013 - Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween 2013

I was extremely proud of my son's home-made Halloween costume this year. Not only was it cheap, but it was punny.

That's right. He was a "Bag of Eminems"

Oct. 30, 2013 - PPM - Halloween is TOO Scary

This week, I am offering a bonus PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM).

There is rain in the forecast for Halloween, so many communities are rescheduling “Trick or Treat” for another day. It has always been on October 31.

“Trick Or Treat”, by definition, is an unknown.  Good/Bad, Ying/Yang, Soccer/Real Sports.Who knows?

When I was a kid, we went trick or treating, rain or shine, hot or cold, snow and sleet.  I think one year, we even had an earthquake or locusts, yet we went trick or treating.

Why don’t we just move all Halloween activities inside so our precious children don’t have to endure weather at all?  Better yet, let’s make it a drive-through activity so that they won’t have to leave the calm environment of the minivan with the DVD playing their favorite show.

We have become a soft country and are putting our children in a bubble.

If they delay Halloween in our community, I’m still going to send my kids out.  They will get candy or will perform a “treat” on the non-participating houses.

Some schools have eliminated "Tag" and " Dodge Ball" from recess because it is dangerous. Now, we are going to move Halloween because of RAIN?

Stop, the INSANITY!!!

Oct. 28, 2013 - PPM - Spy Novice

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the National Security Administration (NSA) wire tapping scandal.

Obama came out on Monday and said he had "No Idea" that the NSA was monitoring calls of over 25 foreign leaders.

I don't know what is more disturbing.

Is it that Obama knew that the NSA was wire tapping other foreign leaders and denied it, or that he DID NOT KNOW?

Obama is either incompetent and not in charge, or is outright lying.

I have no problem with wire taps. Spying on the enemy goes as far back as Cain and Abel. There was spying in every war ever fought and for every war that was avoided. There have been movies made on how we broke the Japanese/German codes that were transmitted in World War II. It expedited our victory.
How is WWII intelligence gathering different than wiretapping emails or phone calls? Wire tapping is just the latest technology.

What is PEEVING me, is that our Chief Executive is not a LEADER.

I would have preferred that Obama responded when asked about listening in on our allies and enemies phone calls with a "Oh, Yeah. So what?

Everyone does it. We got sloppy and got exposed by outsourcing our National Security to the low cost provider (i.e. Snowden).

Own up. Admit to it. Move on. Become sneakier. and stop PEEVING me. ARE YOU LISTENING?

Oct. 25, 2013 - Friday Funny - Driver's Med

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY comes at an opportune time.

My older children have been asking me about when they will be able to drive. I've always said, "You can drive when you are 18 and are ready to move out."

Statistics show that younger drivers make up an disproportionate amount of accidents. The below picture affirms it.

Oct. 21, 2013 - PPM - Obama-Scare

This week’s PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is rollout of Obamacare. I had previously blogged about delay of the ”Employer Mandate” as a PPM earlier this year.

It has been well-documented that the October 1 roll-out of Obamacare has been a disaster. On Monday, Obama held a Rose Garden photo-op with 13 people that had “successfully” enrolled. The only problem was only 2 of his speech props have actually registered.

Obama says he’s “frustrated” with the Obamacare website. It’s as if someone else has been in charge of Obamacare the last 3 years. Obamacare website doesn’t work. Obama says “use the phone!” Obamacare call center is instructing people to go to the website. President Obama says the Obamacare call centers "up and running" 24/7 in 150 languages. 1-800-318-2596. Wait times under a minute, he says.

Why have 150 languages? Press #1 for English, #2 for Spanish, #131 for Cherokee?

It used to be “we must pass Obamacare to see what is in it.” Now, it’s “we must use a non-functioning website to hide what is in it.”

Obama stated: "We are going to hire the best and brightest to fix Healthcare.gov" Did they hire idiots before?

The contract to build the Obamacare website was awarded after reviewing one bid. It went to CGI, a CANADIAN company for $55,744,081. It has now bloated to over $680 Million by some estimates. Guess who is going to pay for the overtime to fix it?

I bet Mitt Romney has “Binders full of JavaScript developers” that could fix the problem. Then again, had America had the foresight, Romney would have been elected and KILLED OBAMACARE and saved us all the time and money.

To add to the failures, the Obama team will not provide information on how many people have enrolled. By their own admission, Obamacare needs 7 million enrollees by March. 2014 to remain “solvent.” The administration’s estimates are that 500K will enroll each month. Even at that rate, that would get you only 3M by the deadline. Why is math so hard for Obama?

In FL and CA, 460,000 folks lost coverage due to Obamacare. Would you say that millions of Americans having their desired insurance policies canceled is a feature, or a bug?

I would suggest we have a Tote Board to count how many people have signed up for Obamacare vs. the number that have lost coverage due to Obamacare.

We could legitimately end up with less people insured in 1 year than before Obamacare was passed, despite spending billions of dollars and hurting our economy.

The main goals of Obamacare were to reduce Healthcare costs, reduce premiums and expand coverage. As of now, it is accomplishing none of those things.

The truth is, the web-site debacle is only the front door that leads to the horror house of fully implemented Obamacare.

My recommendation is that Republicans should stop with the defunding and criticism. Let Obamacare fall under its own weight. Obamacare is situated at the intersection of “Incompetence” and “Ignorance.”

Let Obamacare implode as full-time jobs disappear, health care premiums soar, and administration and registration for the plan is unattainable.

I actually do get joy from saying, “I TOLD YOU SO.”

Oct.18, 2013 - Friday Funny - Tattoo Fail

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY is a Biblical tattoo. I've previously blogged about Tramp Stamp Bingo. I invented this game to get me through the long days at the beach or local water park.

This year, I had to dust off my Bible studies as one child enrolled in a local Catholic school. As a reminder, I WAS the "Alter Boy of the Year" from 1972-1974. I don't recall the referenced Leviticus verses.

The below picture would have never happened in the "70's."

Ignorance isn't blind, but it must be absent in this tattooist's fact checking.

Oct. 16, 2013 - PPM- Kicking the Can, Again!

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) happened on a Wednesday.

With apologies to Colonel Jessep from “A Few Good Men” played by Jack Nicholson, I provide my feedback from today’s congressional solution (?) to the debt limit/default.

“You want the TRUTH, YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH. You don't pay your bills by asking for a higher credit card limit. Raising the debt ceiling to resolve the USA’s financial problem is like raising the blood alcohol limit to resolve drunk driving.

Today, you voted to kick the can down the road. You decided that we should postpone this same exercise for another 3 months. You decide we should pay the 800K furloughed “non-essential” federal workers for a 2 week paid vacation. You voted that we should spend more money to close open-air memorials, than it cost to keep them open. YOU are non-essential and COWARDS.

Our President, and Leader (?) decided it was OK to close the 9/11 Memorial in Shanksville PA. These were the people on United Flight #93 that gave their lives to PROTECT Washington during that terrible day.

THINK ABOUT THAT!!!”

Oct. 11, 2013 - Friday Funny - Space Junk

Today, I saw "Gravity" because 97% of the critics approved of it on Flixster. Only 33% of the people in the theatre liked it. There were only 3 of us there. I was a bit surprised at the end when Sandra Bullock and George Clooney safely land back on Earth and are greeted by the talking Apes.

I really miss really good Science Fiction shows like "Star Trek."
