July 18, 2013 - Detroit Broke City

Today, the city of Detroit became the largest US city to ever declare bankruptcy.

If we rewind to 2008, Mitt Romney penned a New York Times op-ed about why bailing out the auto industry would lead to the bankruptcy of Detroit.

If we continue the timeline to the 2012 Presidential Campaign, you would find that the Obama campaign made THAT Romney column a key negative tactic in speeches and commercials.

Obama was very clear in his rhetoric that GM (and Detroit) were ALIVE and Osama Bin Laden (and Al Qaeda) were DEAD, thanks to his policies. Guess no one told the banks financing Detroit or the US embassy in Libya.

Never mind that Democratic policies have governed Detroit for 51 years of its decline. How dare any one suggest Democratic policies are to blame.

Detroit is a warning of how endless welfare can bring down a city. Cities can and will go bankrupt, but what portends the US as a whole?

You can judge if Obama wouldn't let Detroit go bankrupt in the same way he made sure you could keep your doctor and premiums would go down under Obamacare. Reality over speeches.

The 2012 Obama's ads told me that if I voted for Mitt Romney that Detroit would go bankrupt.

Actually, I did vote for Romney and those ads were right

July 15, 2013- Non-Committal Aquittal

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the outlandish, yet not unexpected, reaction to the George Zimmerman verdict.

My PEEVE just 2 weeks ago dealt with the unbelievable press coverage that had been devoted to this trial.

The good news is that it the verdict was released so late on a Saturday night, that there was little time for rioting. Some civil(?) disobedience / looting has happened. A protest march in CA turned into the looting of a Wal-Mart by youths dressed in hoodies.

Nothing says irony like African American youths protesting the racial profiling of Treyvon Martin, by wearing hoodies, becoming criminals, and looting a Wal-Mart.

With the NOT GUILTY verdict, I believe Justice has been served. I am not happy that a teenager's life is over, but I am encouraged that justice wasn't supplanted by emotion and political correctness gone awry. Defending yourself is not a crime.

However, within 24 hours, Obama decided that maybe the "Civil Rights" of Treyvon Martin had been infringed. Remember it was Obama who elevated this case initially by remarking last year, that if he had had a son, he would have looked like Treyvon.

Obama is not new to inserting himself into local situation. He famously said Massachusetts police acted "stupidly" in 2009 over an incident he knew NOTHING about.

But the President and Democrats have backed the DOJ into a corner. Now they've have to go through the motions. Yes, that makes a mockery of justice and the Department of Justice, but how is that anything new for this Administration?

Attorney General Holder is going after Zimmerman despite FBI establishing he did not act out of bias.

How much of our tax dollars will be wasted, AGAIN?

My PEEVE is that everyone says our legal system is the best in the world, UNTIL you don't get the result you want.

July 12, 2013 - Friday Funny - Zombies

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY concerns how to kill Zombies. 

 

After viewing every episode of "The Walking Dead" and the "Zombieland" and "World War Z" movies, I feel well versed in the particulars of how to kill a Zombie.

 

The fact that it takes a "head shot" concerns me. In fact, in Zombieland, it takes a "double tap." Zombies, by definition, do not have brain activity. Shouldn't a serious injury to the heart stop a Zombie?

 

I believe, that we, as a country, have gone overboard on this Zombie threat. The University of Florida even has a 6 page, "Zombie Attack Evacuation Plan."

 

Below is one happy shopper at the local Bass Pro store. Apparently you can now buy special zombie ammunition. I hope she remembered to buy twice as much in case you need to "double tap" the Zombie.

July 8, 2013 - PPM - ObamaCare doesn't work?

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) concerns ObamaCare. This week, the Obama Administration announced that they would delay the law's implementation by a year.

 

ObamaCare is the transformational heath care law that was so popular it had to be passed in the dead of night and delayed until after two elections. (Sarcasm Font)

 

What happened to "We can't wait?" So ObamaCare saves lives, but we're going to delay implementing parts of it? Don't tell me Obama speeches were just empty rhetoric.

 

Personally, I am shocked all of Obama's speeches didn't solve all the issues with ObamaCare. I really thought that would work.

 

When Congress voted, they said: "“The amendments made by this section shall apply to months beginning after December 31, 2013.” Obama decided to simply ignore.

 

IS THAT POSSIBLE OR CONSTITUTIONAL?

 

WOW. ObamaCare employer mandate will be delayed till 2015. So employers will dump workers into the exchange after the midterm elections of 2014 when 21 Democrat senate seats are up for reelection.

 

Obama is manipulating election results by delaying news: How is this different from the IRS scandal of 2011 or Benghazi of 2012?

 

Are all congressionally-established effective dates in all laws now merely suggestions for the all-powerful executive?

 

Does the law allow HHS to delay any part of ObamaCare? Shouldn't Congress have to act?

 

The Supreme Court ruled last year that ObamaCare is a tax! Doesn't our government need more tax revenue? Why the delay?

 

No big deal. I'm sure when we finally implement ObamaCare with the IRS as a key component, ALL will be fine?

July 4, 2013 - Happy Fourth?

Every Fourth of July, we celebrate our "Freedoms."

Unfortunately, it appears our current Government is eroding those freedoms.

Thomas Jefferson famously penned in 1787, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

We saw the Egyptian people reject an overreach by their democratically elected government this past week. Egypt President Morsi lasted less than year.

Unfortunately, I think we will need to rely on the distance of time and reflection to fully understand the "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" committed by the Obama Administration.

July 1, 2013 - PPM - TV Trials

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the "Television Trial."

 

Every year, the cable networks anoint a criminal case and trial that they decide to promote and cover.

 

There is a long list of "Show Trials" dating back to the 1990's with the O.J. Simpson trial. That trial made the careers of Greta Van Susteren, Star Jones, and many others.

 

Since that trial, several crimes have dominated the news. The most recent were the Casey Anthony case and now the George Zimmerman trial.

 

Why do these cases warrant the coverage? With over 10,000 homicides a year, why THIS case?

 

I had previously blogged about the attention associated with the Natalie Holloway disappearance. Many people disappear every day. Why did The Networks focus on this blonde haired, blue eyed woman?

 

As for George Zimmerman and Trevon Martin. Lives: families, and communities are forever changed. Regardless of the jury verdict, someone will be incensed.

 

The media will do nothing but promote the trial, the verdict, and the volatile response to the verdict. I know first hand of the damage TV Trial can incite. I was caught in a downtown SF riot when the Rodney King verdict was released in April 1992.

 

It PEEVES me that THIS trial receives the media blitz when it could be ANY trial in ANY city on ANY day.

 

Why is one trial MORE important than another?

 

We are ALL CREATED EQUAL under our constitution, but just not by CNN?
