J. Jay's Jabberwocky / WWJD (What Would Jay Do)
My Blog is a place where I can perpetuate my love for odd news and useless facts. I can provide my comments on current events, and all that is wrong (and right) with the world. I have PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) and FRIDAY FUNNY. Sometimes I declare a LOSER OF THE WEEK. Comments are encouraged.

September 25, 2008 - Loser of the Week - Biden His Time
Since he was selected by Obama, it has been one gaffe after another. Here is what he said yesterday as reported by the Associated Press:
“Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today’s leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt’s response to a financial crisis.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened,’” Barack Obama’s running mate recently told the “CBS Evening News.”
Except, Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929. There also was no television at the time; TV wasn’t introduced to the public until a decade later, at the 1939 World’s Fair”
Sounds very familiar to Al Gore’s claim to have invented the Internet.
Imagine the uproar had Republican Sarah Palin had made the same remark about FDR. NICE DOUBLE STANDARD.
I believe the “October Surprise” will be that Obama will dump Biden. Biden has already said that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice. They will convolute some health scare for Biden. It could be a phantom cancer, or a hair-plug infection, or just foot in mouth disease, it doesn’t matter. He has turned into an embarrassment and a drag on the ticket. Obama has a long history of throwing people under the bus.
Joe Biden, you are my LOSER OF THE WEEK.

September 22, 2008 - PPM - Article II, Section 1
The U.S. Constitution was written in 1787, but not fully ratified until 1789, a full 13 years after our Declaration of Independence. Amazingly, people gripe about the pace of progress of Iraq’s new government.
There are many issues within our Constitution that bother me. I’ve previously blogged about the Second Amendment.
People want to consider our Founding Fathers as infallible. Does anyone remember their solution for slavery? They weren’t any more intelligent or politically savvy than today’s Congress. How is our current business regulation policy going?
My PEEVE is about Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution. Before you Wikipedia it, let me be specific.
My PEEVE is about the clause that states:
“No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”
NOBODY has the ability to decide where they were born. We can only decide WHERE we live.
Now, I’m not influenced by my chance meeting last week with Arnold Schwarzenneger’s wife, Maria Shriver. Arnold has proven his ability to lead our largest state, California. However, Arnold cannot be our President becasue he was born in Austria. Based upon her politics, I doubt Maria would vote for Arnold any way.
I’m concerned that this law and its relevance are out of date. This Constitutional Clause eliminaties several outstanding candidates. Don’t we live in a GLOBAL time?
There were some Democrat operatives that were trying to establish that John McCain should be disqualified to be President because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone, a U.S. Territory. Never mind that McCain served his country and was a POW for 5 and ½ years. What else can he do to prove he is a True American?
It’s time to eliminate this obsolete, restrictive requirement. Because of this clause we have prevented the following people from leading our country:
Albert Einstein, born in Germany, was probably the smartest man of his time. Einstein could actually say, in fact, why, yes, it is Rocket Science.
William Shatner, born is Canada, was the able Leader of the Star Ship, Enterprise, before his promotion by Star Fleet.
Bruce Willis, born in Germany, has saved Cities (Die Hard), Airports (Die Hard 2), States (Die Hard 3) and the Country (Live Free, or Die).
Come on, we need leaders like John McClain, or was that John McCain.

September 15, 2008 - PPM - Finger Photography
Hurricane Ike’s impact was felt by Ohio on Sunday with 75 mph winds and massive power loss. Obviously, lack of electricity for a day or two is a minor disruption compared to the devastation experienced by those in Galveston.
My PEEVE is NOT about power loss.
Last week, I traveled with 3 buddies to Southern California to see the latest “Game of the Century”, #5 Ohio State visiting #1 USC.
My PEEVE is NOT about the over hype attributed to a single college football game.
On game day, we hooked up with an old friend, George, and the subject of a WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Blog from June 2006. George was eventually located in November 2006. George, originally from Ohio, was my California roommate from 1987-1989. He still lives in Orange County.
George secured a stretch limo and we went to the game in style only to see OSU get trounced 35-3 by the Trojans. The last time I was in the LA Coliseum was 1989 when Ohio State lost 42-3, so the team is making progress. The below picture is BEFORE the game.
My PEEVE is NOT about how Ohio State has been blown out is their last three prime time games.
My PEEVE is NOT about the Unsportsmanlike Conduct of some USC fans before, during, and after the game. Many of these “fans” were probably never students at the University as many of their chants and taunts were grammatically incorrect. Many of these rogue “fans” actually had trouble with the English language period. Unfortunately, there is never an INS agent around when you need one.
During the game, I asked George to take a picture of me with my camera phone. Our seats were across the aisle from a famous American.
Here is a nice picture of George’s finger.
I thought I would give George another chance. Now you can see part of me, my new friend, and most of George’s finger.
When George finally got it right, he captured a picture of me rolling my eyes in disbelief at his inability to use a camera phone.
My new friend is Maria Shriver, wife of the California Governor, Kennedy clan member, former NBC reporter, and staunch supporter of Barack Obama. She was wearing a T-shirt with his likeness.
As a USC fan, Maria told me she admired my devotion to Ohio State as illustrated by my OSU DUDE license plate. The plate used to be on the back of my Chrysler Le Baron convertible when I was living on the left coast.
Maria’s appreciation was short lived when I flipped the plate over to reveal the George W. Bush and McCain stickers. Note - This was after George's 7 attempts to TAKE A PICTURE.
My PET PEEVE is how can somebody in this day and age NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A CAMERA PHONE.
God help George if he experiences the rare sighting of Sasquatch, the Loch Ness Monster, or another Republican in California and all he has is a CAMERA PHONE.

September 8, 2008 - PPM - Vetting
It is a popular term this election year. It was originally meant as a term for a veterinary evaluation. It is now used as a description for evaluating or examining someone running for office.
There has been much discussion in the biased media that Governor Sarah Palin was not thoroughly “vetted” by John McCain before her selection as his running mate.
The NEGATIVE MEDIA COVERAGE that has been afforded Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin is unbelievable.
I could discuss the sexism that mainstream media have displayed in talking about her desire to have a career and be a mother. Did anyone ask Bill Clinton if he could find the proper balance between being the President, a good father, and still finding time for White House interns?
The below US magazine covers illustrate the print media bias. Even Oprah won’t allow Palin to be a guest until AFTER the election. I’m sure the Fairness Doctrine will address that inadequacy.
I had the unique opportunity to be at the August 29 rally in Dayton OH when Sarah Palin was introduced as Senator McCain’s running mate. The media reported that the arena wasn’t full. I WAS THERE. They were standing 3 deep in the back and the atmosphere was electric.
I mentioned to my friend that if she spoke at the convention like she did that day that the Republicans would see a 10 point bump in the polls. I under estimated her impact.
I truly think that the media’s negative reaction to Palin to do with the fact that the media was scooped on her selection. They didn’t get a chance to “vet” her.
Exactly what is vetting?
As part of the media’s vetting of Sarah Palin, they discovered that her husband had a DUI 22 years ago. It was 2 years BEFORE they got married. How is that relevant? I’m sure as VP, she will have a designated driver. Current VP Dick Cheney actually shot a close friend with a shotgun. I guess if Cheney had been properly vetted by his optometrist he might have been denied a gun permit.
I still remember the 1972 Presidential election. The original Democratic VP Thomas Eagleton was forced to drop from the McGovern ticket after it was learned that he had gone under experimental Electroconvusive Therapy. Eagleton had a history of manic depression and suicidal tendencies. As it turns out, these symptoms weren’t that rare for Democrats in the 70’s. Borne from this event was the current lexicon of vetting.
In this environment of MySpace, YouTube, and Google, every one is vetted in real time.
The role of media vetting is GONE, so they should move on and report the news instead of trying to INFLUENCE elections.
I'm thankful that Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet yet when I met my wife 17 years ago.
She was not able to properly "vet" me. Besides, I'm sure some people like to use Electroconvusive Therapy instead of coffee to jump start their day.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

September 4, 2008 - Back On-Line
Dell under promised and over performed. Dell said that my spare part would probably ship on September 5th, but it arrived on the 3rd. I’m back on-line with no lost of data. The blogging will commence immediately.
What Dell did reminded me of what my wife told me was the success of our 15 year marriage, LOW EXPECTATIONS.
