Oct. 23, 2015 - Friday Funny - Taken Literally

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY is what happens when a teenager takes his Mom's orders LITERALLY.

The upside is that his Mom DID get him out of her basement, if just for a while.

I've always loved the YouTube video of the irate Dada taking a lawn mower to his man-child son's video games.  Good Times.

Oct. 16, 2015 - Friday Funny - A Stand Up Guy

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY is an example of small type crime.

You can almost envision a whole episode of The Andy Griffith show dedicated to how Barney Fife solved the "crime" and saved the day.

However if you fast forward to present day, it probably wouldn't be that funny if the cardboard cutout across from the school was of Subway spokesman, Jared Fogle,

Oct. 9, 2015 - Friday Funny - Animal Testing

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY is a welcome relief to the overly politically correct, PETA-led society.

It is comical to me when people say we shouldn't use animals for testing of products or that we shouldn't eat animals.

I may buy Top Gear products just for their sense of humor.

Oct. 6, 2015 - Playoffs? Yes, Baseball Playoffs

This is my favorite time of the year:  The Baseball playoffs.

I grew up when it was the National League East against the National League West. No wildcard team and certainly NOT two wildcard teams.

Playoff games AND World Series games were played in the afternoon. It was the era of Aaron and Mays, Garvey and Lopes, Clemente and Stargell, Rose and Bench.

It was the Cincinnati Reds against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Reds were in the WEST even though St. Louis and Chicago were in the EAST.

I remember going to a Reds/Pirates playoff game at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati in October, 1979. I was a high school senior and somehow a classmate and I were able to drive 3 hours each way to the game and back, missing school, and probably our after school jobs just to see a Reds playoff game.  The Reds lost that day, but WE WON.

If I was still in school I probably would have sent the below email:
You never know when you are making a memory that will make you smile for a lifetime. Take that chance.

It was an experience like this that validated my retirement at 43.

You can always make money, but it's more important to make memories.

Oct. 5, 2015 - PPM - Understanding the GRAVITY of the Situation

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the immediate OVER REACTION to an event.  It can be international, national, or local.

We recently had another mass shooting.  This time it was in Oregon, but it could have been anywhere. That is what is troubling, is the random nature: schools, restaurants, movie theatres, etc.

But what is more troubling is the immediate knee-jerk call for "Gun Control." Anyone who knows me or has read my blog knows that I have issues with the Second Amendment

My PEEVE is that everyone complains about the NRA and the gun laws AFTER a mass shooting.  The complaining quickly subsides because there is never a solution that would have PREVENTED the shootings that just happened. The person is usually mentally ill, but has not been diagnosed.  The guns were purchased legally.

The solution after the Charleston shooting was to ban the Confederate Flag.  WOW!  That helped. What flag was flying in Oregon?

All of the rhetoric and speeches only polarize and divide us.  Even President Obama admitted that he was politicizing this latest shooting. THAT HELPED.

Until calm minds and thought leaders address the issues, we will be discussing the same topics and hardened positions up till and through the next shooting.

Oct. 2, 2015 - Friday Funny - Cats, One Life is Enough

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY is especially funny because I HATE cats.  It's not because I'm allergic to them, I just HATE them.

You have to wonder if the Egyptians 4000 years ago had considered them a delicacy and not a domestic pet, if cats would have the pompous attitude they exude today.

Either way, the below picture is FUNNY.
