May 27, 2013 - PPM - "Happy" Memorial Day

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about Memorial Day.

 

I do NOT like it when someone wishes me a "Happy Memorial Day."

 

It bothers me when people think Memorial Day is for "thanking a veteran" because I think it takes away from the real reason for the day. Memorial Day is to honor those that gave the supreme sacrifice, their life, for our freedoms.

 

Would you say "Happy Memorial Day" to the parents who have buried their children? There is really nothing "happy" about it.

 

Veteran's Day is the day for the living. Memorial Day is... set aside to remember the lives that were spent, so that we could live ours.
