Nov. 16, 2015 - PPM - Cause and No Effect
This week’s PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) has to do with those ubiquitous
wristbands/bracelets in support of a specific cause.
I now wear 5 such bands on my left wrist.
My Blue bracelet is for Parkinson’s awareness.
My Pink bracelet is for Breast Health or Breast Cancer awareness.
My Yellow bracelet is a generic good health bracelet. Yellow used to be for the Lance Armstrong “Live
Strong” foundation. I’m torn because I’m
against testicular cancer, I’m against steroids and cheating, but I am for
biking.
My Red bracelet is not about heart health. It was given to me by the Caribbean Resort in
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It gives
me all day access to their lazy river.
My Black bracelet was given to me by a PETA advocate. I was accosted at a local festival. The volunteer had to hold my beer and corndog
while I found a dollar to donate to their cause. The IRONY was totally lost and wasted on that
individual.
When you look at all my bracelets as a group, it looks like a
rainbow and that I support LGBT rights or something. Actually, I support saving money on sunscreen
as the bracelets provide ample cover.
Here is my PET PEEVE.
I think supporting causes is great.
I don’t know anyone who is PRO-CANCER. The one dollar per bracelet impact is probably negligible based on the cost to manufacture, market, distribute, and sell the bracelets.
At the end of the day, I think the only people making
money is the BRACELET MANUFACTURERS.
