Oct. 11, 2011 - PPM - Occupy Cincinnati - Got Reason?

This week’s PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM ) concerns the Occupy Wall Street protests. Last week, I had a PPM about the cause(?) because they had no identified complaint. Now, we know that they are against anyone who has more money than them.

The mentality that the 1% of the wealthiest Americans is to blame for our current economic mess is absurd.

The Gini coefficient is a measure of statistical dispersion developed by the Italian statistician Corrado Gini It is a measure of the inequality of a distribution, a value of 0 expressing total equality and a value of 1 maximal inequality.

The Global number is .804 while the US is .801 which means there is more “inequality” globally then exists in the US. Maybe the demonstrations should be moved the U.N.

If you want to experience “fairer” wealth distribution than the US offers, I would suggest the protestors try Yemen (.613), Ethiopia (.652) or Iran (.707). However, I would suggest calling ahead and checking on their specific Immigration Policies. They appear to be more rigid then those in the US.

The “Class Warfare” rhetoric that is emanating from Washington and some elected leaders(?) is shameful. Since when is success a crime?

This picture illustrates the irony of the situation. How can you proclaim your disdain for something that you use an everyday?

The Gini Coefficient....US ranks 93 out of 133 countries. Behind China and Iran?!? But also behind Germany, France, UK, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Denmark, Austria, etc. The inequality, especially when compared to the rest of the developed world, is staggering.

Why are folks upset? Because unemployment is at its highest level since the great depression despite corporate profits reaching all-time highs. Wages as a percent of the US economy are at an all-time low. Income and wealth inequality in the US is at it's highest level since the 1920's.

Unfortunateley these idiots can't articulate that point of view. They just know that the system is broken. Just like the tea party movement (before it was highjacked by the lunatic fringe right wingers in the Republican party), Americans for the most part are sick of the way things are headed in this country.

I am not saying Eat the Rich or break up corporations, but something has to change. Reform on both government spending and taxation needs to happen. Less spending...better tax system....

Snarky comments keep us coming back to your site, but damn things are headed the wrong direction and I don't see any party that has the stones to say it. Feel free to hammer away.
