Mar. 2, 2015 - PPM - Online Wolf Cries

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM)  is the growing trend of Facebook and Twitter postings that are misleading, hoaxes, or outright lies.

Last week, a gay rights activist in Cincinnati claimed he was abducted and put in the trunk of his car.  He didn't call 911. He decided to post Facebook updates.  WHAT?

It's time to hold people accountable for their online posts much like we used to for their fake "sky is falling" pronouncements. It diminishes the REAL tragedies, crimes, and rapes by falsely posting and promoting a story or agenda online.

These lies will only distract us from actual emergencies and crimes and desensitized us from real crimes and emergencies.

At some point these false pronouncements will be treated as crimes much like yelling "Fire" in a movie theatre. The time is NOW.
