March 2, 2010 - Who's On First?

In today’s Cincinnati Enquirer Sports section, the top story is about Yonder Alonso. Alonso was the Red’s 2008 top draft pick. Unfortunately he plays first base. Unless Abner Doubleday’s desires were misinterpreted in the rules, the Reds can only field one First Baseman and that is Joey Votto.

Votto could move to Left Field, where there is an opening but he doesn’t want to do that.

I suggest they get out their 2010 Reds Media Guide and turn to the page that covers the 1975 Reds. Pete Rose, unselfishly, and for the betterment of the team moved from Left Field to Third Base to make room for George Foster. And the rest, as they say is HISTORY!!!

I already miss the selflessness of the Olympic athletes. There is a story buried on page C4 about two US Bobsledders that are joining the Army to serve their country.

Today’s coddled, boorish, pro athletes could learn a lesson from the past and the present.
