This week PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the State of the Union Address.

"Tonight's State of the Union was full of the same empty rhetoric the American people have come to expect from this President."

That was Senator Barrack Obama in on January 28, 2008 in response to then President Bush's State of the Union address.

After listening to PRESIDENT Obama's speech, I'm struck by his empty rhetoric, especially again, with the Class Warfare.

Obama should have used PowerPoint and put up the below slide.

This is the REAL record. Not the fiction nor revisionist history that he offered.

When did the State of the Union become a campaign stump speech?

It was established and designed to provide Congress with an actual update on what was going on in the Executive Branch of the government. Some Presidents would actually just send a letter.

I bet everyone misses those days.

Jan. 16, 2012 – PPM -Taxing My Patience

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) concerns tax returns. Everyone (read- media) is up in arms because Mitt Romney has not released his tax returns.

When I grew up, I was told you never asked about three things:

1 - Who you voted for
2 - A woman's age
3 - What someone made

After Bill Clinton, a 4^th, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was added, but that has since been rescinded. Congrats to Obama on keeping that all important campaign pledge.

Now it has become common place to discuss a candidate's taxes. We all know what sports and entertainment people are paid. WHY is this important? Is it ENVY?

I don't care if a third baseman makes $25M or $400K. Get the runner in from third with less than 2 out and don't scratch yourself on National TV.

The big difference between gross salary and the information on a tax return is the tax rate and the net income. Nobody pays the same tax rate because of the obscene complexity of the tax code. There are tax deductions for just about everything. There are loss carry forwards for years on end. There is active and passive income, capital gains, and depreciation. God, I love depreciation.

I have a degree in accounting and a MBA in Finance, but I wouldn't dare file my taxes without the guidance and signature of a CPA. I was audited several years ago. I countered with a 286 page response in a binder with 13 exhibits. The IRS saw my response and said, "We're good."

It is irrelevant what ANY politician made or paid in taxes (unless it was ILLEGAL - see Clinton, Whitewater). Bottom line (pun intended) - I don't need to know.

Will we feel better knowing Mitt Romney made $25M? Can he play third base?

I'd rather have a President that made $25M as a Venture Capitalist than one who made $25K as a Community Organizer.

I want a LEADER, not a READER. Just saying.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) concerns the topic that has dominated the news and political ads this week: Mitt Romney's tenure at Bain Capital

Since when did capitalism or turning a profit become a negative?

Mitt Romney is under attack from the left, the right, and anyone wanting to be President, because of his management actions while running Bain Capital.

His task, was to maximize earnings and the return on stockholders equity. Yes, he bought distressed and undervalued companies. Yes, he may have broken up the companies, laid off people, and sold assets. But, he served a purpose. Would it have been better that a company go Chapter 11, or worse, Chapter 7?

Bain, and Romney by default, made lemonade out of lemons. Think of it as a doctor that keeps a terminal patient alive in order to harvest the organs that might save or extend 6 other lives.

I worked for a company that used to cap salespeople earnings at $150,000 a year. Quotas were the same for every salesperson each year. All of the best salesmen would "max-out" in March. With no incentive to record additional sales, they would spend the next 9 months holding orders, golfing, or vacationing until the next year.

Finally, the executives of the company lifted the earnings cap and decided to assign personal quotas based on prior performance. Sales, earnings, stockholder return, and, yes, salesman compensation soared.

Why cap potential or demonize success?

At what point does capitalism become obscene? At what point should it be "Capped"?

I want a President or CEO that is focused on the "Big Picture" and results. There should be nothing wrong with being the best.

To admonish or penalize Romney for being a business success only adds credence to the class warfare rhetoric that Obama has offered since his coronation.

Is it the taint of greed or just plain ENVY?

Well done, Mr. President. May we all be adequate, average, and unmotivated.

As we enter into 2012, possibly the last year of our existence, there are so many things going on in the world.

The speed of information and automation has made blogging (as I intended) almost an arcane media. Now, all thoughts must be limited to 140 characters via Twitter.

Spelling, grammar, and a complex thoughts are secondary.

This will be my seventh year of blogging. If nothing else, it will allow my children a "journal" and timeline of my feelings, my beliefs, and my personal stands on the current events of the day.

They always ask, "Daddy, why don't you run for political office?" I always respond, it's all there in the Blog.

Dec. 26, 2011- PPM – It’s Not a Tax Cut

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the "EXTENDED TAX CUTS" that was just passed by Congress and signed by President Obama.

It extends for TWO MONTHS last year's tax cut extension deal made last December during the lame duck Congress included a new one-year FICA reduction of employee Social Security contributions from 6.2% percent to 4.2%. Employers still pay their 6.2% share.

In that deal, employees saw a 2% increase in their take home pay this year, just like getting a raise, up to a maximum of $2,136 for those making $106,800 or more. The average worker saw an increase in take-home pay of about $1,000 or $20 per week.

FICA stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act. It came about as part of the creation of Social Security back in 1935. That deduction was designed to be put in the Social Security Trust Fund.

FICA really isn't a tax in the traditional sense of the word.

A payroll deduction into a 401k plan, for example, is not a tax. It's a personal contribution you make into a savings plan for your future retirement. So is FICA. It's not only a contribution to a savings plan for your future retirement but also helps pay for future medical needs after you retire.

So again, the government and Obama have tried to buy CURRENT votes by robbing our FUTURE.

It is NOT a tax cut, but a lower payment into your retirement.

But the real PEEVE is that the politicians could only agree on a TWO MONTH extension. Just like the DEBT CEILING debacle last summer, NO LONG TERM SOLUTION, just kick the old battered can a bit further down the road.

COWARDS.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the unbelievable fascination people seem to have with themselves.

They love to take pictures of themselves while posing and preening in front of the bathroom mirror. They then post these pictures to Facebook and Twitter. Some of the technology-challenged individuals can't figure out how to rotate the camera or picture 90 degrees.

Nothing says desperate or narcissistic more than a self-portrait, IN A BATHROOM FROM A CELL PHONE CAMERA.

Phone a friend, buy a tripod, go to the Walmart Portrait Studio, but stop this offensive insanity.

Dec. 9, 2011 - Friday Funny - Perfect Candidate Wanted

I saw this ad and it not only struck me as funny, but exceptionally accurate.

Is ANYONE up to the electability standards based on the media? Every 2-4 weeks we are provided a new "front runner" only to have him/her get thoroughly disqualified by that same media. It's a bizarre game of Survivor.

And don't get me started on the upcoming Primary season. I was upset about it 4 years ago., and it has only gotten worse.

Dec. 7, 2011 – Loser HOF – Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin is at it again. Yesterday he was booted from an American Airlines flight.

The airline claims that Baldwin refused to turn off his cell phone when asked to do so at the appropriate time. Baldwin claims he was simply playing Words With Friends.

"The passenger ultimately stood up (with the seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane's lavatory," an airline statement reads. "He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed, even with the cockpit door closed and locked. They immediately contacted the cabin crew to check on the situation. The passenger was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language."

Baldwin also tweeted about the girth of some of the flight attendants. If anyone knows about weight problems, first hand, it's Baldwin.

I had first declared Alec Baldwin, my LOSER OF THE WEEK in 2007.

Now he is a repeat offender which makes him my first entry into the LOSER HALL OF FAME (HOF).

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the media treatment of Herman Cain.

Several women now claim Herman Cain exposed himself, fondled them, made inappropriate remarks, and raped them ... oh, sorry, that's Bill Clinton.

Actually, there have been 4 separate harassment claims, but only 2 that were not anonymous. I'm troubled if they are true, but it hardly discredits someone from running for office.

I would think more people would focus on the top line of Cain's resume. Cain was CEO of the #10 US Pizza Chain, Godfather's. Why aren't the CEOs of #6 Cici's and #8 Chuck E. Cheese running?

We better be careful or we might elect someone whose biggest accomplishments were they were a good teleprompter reader and had been a mediocre community organizer.

My PEEVE is that the media is focused on Herman Cain's sexual harassment. Let's look at his competency.

This week’s PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM ) concerns the Occupy Wall Street protests. Last week, I had a PPM about the cause(?) because they had no identified complaint. Now, we know that they are against anyone who has more money than them.

The mentality that the 1% of the wealthiest Americans is to blame for our current economic mess is absurd.

The Gini coefficient is a measure of statistical dispersion developed by the Italian statistician Corrado Gini It is a measure of the inequality of a distribution, a value of 0 expressing total equality and a value of 1 maximal inequality.

The Global number is .804 while the US is .801 which means there is more “inequality” globally then exists in the US. Maybe the demonstrations should be moved the U.N.

If you want to experience “fairer” wealth distribution than the US offers, I would suggest the protestors try Yemen (.613), Ethiopia (.652) or Iran (.707). However, I would suggest calling ahead and checking on their specific Immigration Policies. They appear to be more rigid then those in the US.

The “Class Warfare” rhetoric that is emanating from Washington and some elected leaders(?) is shameful. Since when is success a crime?

This picture illustrates the irony of the situation. How can you proclaim your disdain for something that you use an everyday?

This week's Pet Peeve Monday (PPM) is about the level of mob mentality growing in our country. It started in New York City on Wall Street and is now spreading to other cities.

“Occupy Cincinnati” will hold its first “occupation” starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8. Really? You can’t get up and organized earlier than 11 a.m.? From their web site, it says that the local group isn’t offering demands or solutions.

So everyone is supposed to show up for no real reason. At least “Flash Mobs” have music and they provide the entertainment.

The mentality that the 1% of the wealthiest Americans is to blame for our current economic mess is absurd. The “Class Warfare” rhetoric that is emanating from Washington and some elected leaders(?) is shameful. Since when is success a crime?

There was great irony this week at the Occupy Wall Street event. They decided to pay tribute and acknowledge Steve Jobs’ death. But wasn’t Jobs the poster child FOR capitalism, materialism, and corporate wealth. Apple is currently number 2 in market capitalization behind Exxon Mobil. Jobs had a personal net worth of over $8 Billion. Let’s never let facts get in the way of a large, unorganized movement, especially if TV cameras are around.

The Tea Party is vilified for wanting to KEEP what they earn, while the Occupiers are praised for wanting to TAKE what others earn.

The amusing fact is that with these “Entitlement Generation” protestors, no one has missed a day of work.
Get a job, pay some taxes, and then MAYBE you are "entitled" to have a rally and be upset.

Steve Jobs said, "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life."

Jobs was born out of wedlock, put up for adoption, dropped out of college, and THEN changed the world. What's your excuse?

Everyone is complaining and moaning about the changes made to Facebook. "It's different."... "I don't like it." ... "Whaaaaaahhh!!!"

This just in, Facebook will change its privacy settings to allow Mark Zuckerberg to come into your house while you sleep and eat your brains with a grapefruit spoon. To stop this from happening go to Account> Home Invasion Settings> Cannibalism> Brains, and uncheck the “Tasty” box. Please copy and re-post. It will save lives.

Please stop complaining about changes to Facebook - IT'S FREE!!!

It's the same price you pay for the nice sunny day, the spring wind blowing through an open window, or the that bright, clear full moon on an Autumn eve. Absolutely nothing. (I should probably offer my prose to Hallmark.)

Sept. 22, 2011 - Loser of the Week - Cincinnati Veterans

This week's LOSER OF THE WEEK is the US Veterans in Cincinnati.

Obama had advocated targeted employment programs for our Iraq and Afghanistan military veterans. Cincinnati had started a program and had selected, many months in advance, to hold a "Jobs Fair" today at Paul Brown Stadium.

However, last week, Obama decided to use Cincinnati's Brent Spence Bridge as a back drop for a political rally. Because of this grandstanding, the Jobs Fair had to be cancelled by the Secret Service for security reasons.

Many ironies are easy to detect:

It's not a "Jobs' Speech" but a Tax Speech. The $450B is paid for by new taxes. It is not funded through normal government funds. It only "creates" jobs through wealth redistribution.

Highway officials say the Brent Spence bridge replacement plans are not ready and they don't plan to hire workers till 2015 or later - so Obama jobs bill doesn't apply. The $450B does not address this bridge. This bridge has been classified as "functionally obsolete." Which means it was not designed to handle the current capacity without traffic delays. But, it will not fall down!!! Using this logic, all of Los Angeles should be repaved and widened.

It's like living with a 3G Iphone instead of upgrading to the latest model.

Obama has said nothing to address the bridge from Louisville to Indiana that is now closed because it has structural cracks. This bridge closure is DIRECTLY affecting commerce and economics. Why not go there for a rally? I guess Indiana and Kentucky are not "Swing States."

Is it Irony or Poetic Justice that Obama's politics just got in the way of a "Community-based" jobs program.

You tell me.

Sept. 19, 2011 - PPM - Bark in the Park

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about a new trend, "Bark in the Park."

It's where Major League Baseball teams allow fans to bring their dogs to the baseball game.

It brings to mind three questions for me:

How did this start?
Why?
And, what can I do to STOP it?

I like dogs, I have one. But I have no desire to take my dog to a baseball game. I believe it started with the Montreal Expos. They had really poor attendance and needed a draw. Viola - le chien ? (That's almost all I remember from my high school French class.)

Why limit it to dogs? Why not snakes at Arizona Diamondback games? Pet fish at Florida Marlin games? Horses, albeit clydesdales, at Cardinal games.

I've never been a fan of large Parrots or mascots, as well.

Seriously. I don't like it when a neighbor dog marks his spot in my yard. Why would I want that to happen when I'm watching baseball?

It might be interesting to have a "Dog Day" at a Philadelphia Eagle football game. It would give new meaning to a "Sudden Death" game. But let's keep baseball, pet free.

Can we all agree that pets are fine, in their place, in their cage, and away from professional sports stadiums?

Stevie Wonder never had a dog with him at games. Why do normal fans need one?

I believe we should heed the lessons from the Planet of the Apes movies. Let's keep our pets on leases, in cages, and away from public venues. Otherwise, we may rue the day of, ......"The Bark in the Park."

This week's LOSER OF THE WEEK is Notre Dame Football Coach Brian Kelly.

No, he is not a loser because he lost his first two games this year, even though ND was a pre-season top 20 pick.

No, he is not a loser for the way he left the University of Cincinnati, even though he repeatedly denied that he would.

No, he is not a loser for dropping the F-Bomb more than 20 times in less than 5 minutes while discussing football performance with one of his players while he is the Head Coach for the largest CATHOLIC University.

Brian Kelly is a LOSER for his decision to chastise The Ohio State University for it's decision to play Toledo. Really?

Kelly decided to go this route in a conference call with reporters this week. He didn't want to talk about how his team can't play a whole game or has turned over the ball 10 times in 2 weeks. He wanted to bring attention to the fact that OSU played Toledo.

Kelly: Here's my revelation for you. Toledo will finish with a better record than Notre Dame and go to a better bowl game this year.

The only winner with your hiring at ND was the Dunkin Donuts franchise in South Bend.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is Obama's new $450 BILLION "Jobs" Bill.

It is NOT a Jobs Bill. It is nothing but a repackaging and resubmission of previous Obama legislation that was previously rejected. More failed stimulus and more class warfare.

What makes this one different is the transparency that it is paid for with "Offsets”

However, when you read the bill, it is clear that there are no sources to pay for the bill. It kicks the responsibility to the new "Super-committee."

This same committee is already tasked with finding $1.5 TRILLION in cuts based on the Debt Ceiling deal from August. This makes the new goal of $1.95 trillion, in order to “pay for” the new spending. In reality, they won't ever agree on the original goal.

Obama has launched into a campaign-like, cross country trip to gain support for his Jobs Bill. The only problem is that even his own party is rejecting the proposal.

I may not have all of the answers to how to create the 2 Million jobs that have been lost since the Obama coronation. But I do know, more of the same failed policies and desire for "wealth redistribution" will not get it done.

It appears Hurricane Irene is making some nasty weekend plans. I wanted to remind everyone of what we should have learned from Katrina.

As a disclaimer, I want to state if you lost any family, friends, or furnishing in any catastrophe, I am sorry for your loss. Like most people, I donated belongings and funds after Katrina.

With that said, let’s go over a few basic Hurricane Rules:

#1. A mandatory evacuation means just that... Get The Hell Out!!! Don't blame the Government after they tell you to go and you decide to stay. If they hadn't said anything, I can see the argument.

#2. If there is an emergency, stock up on water and non-perishables. If you didn't do this, it's not the government’s fault you're starving. I live in Ohio and I have enough beans, ravioli, beef jerky, and juice boxes to make it through six weeks. My biggest fear isn’t hurricanes, it’s that the local store may run out of my favorites.

#3. If you run out of food and water, find a store that has some and borrow what you need. DO NOT LOOT!!! Remember, plasma screen TV's, DVD's, CD's, and Nike shoes are not edible. Leave them alone.

#4. If someone comes in to help you, don't shoot at them and then complain no one is helping you. It’s called hazard pay, not combat duty.

#5. My tax money should not pay to rebuild a sports stadium or a floating casino. Also, my tax money shouldn't go to rebuild a city that is under sea level. You wouldn't build your house on quicksand.If you want to live below sea level, join the Navy.

President Kennedy said it best... "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

My LOSER OF THE WEEK is John Kerry.

I know, I know, He's been a LOSER for a long-time, but why now?

He was a LOSER in the early 1970's when he spoke out against his "band of brothers" and the war in Vietnam.

He was a LOSER when he sold out and married Heinz for money and financial backing.

He was a LOSER when he lost the election in 2004.

But on Sunday, he became a Hall Of Fame LOSER when he blamed the S&P downgrade of the USA credit rating on the Tea Party.

The Tea Party should be thanked not vilified.

\What would have happened if the Tea Party was not around? How much would the debt limit have been raised had the Democrats controlled the White House, the Senate, AND the House?

One of the three tenets of the Tea Party is FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY. How can you argue AGAINST this concept or a Balanced Budget Amendment?

I love the below analogy from Dave Ramsey. It puts it into perspective.

"If the US Government was a family, they would be making $58,000 a year, they spend $75,000 a year, & are $327,000 in credit card debt. They are currently proposing BIG spending cuts to reduce their spending to $72,000 a year. These are the actual proportions of the federal budget & debt, reduced to a level that we can understand."

One of these individuals wears make-up and constantly makes funny, outlandish remarks. The other is a CLOWN.

Aug. 8, 2011 - PPM - Johnny Needs 36 Pencils

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is School Supplies.

I'm on my 4th child. When I started this adventure it was easy: pencils, paper, ruler, and a bag to carry it all.

This year the list contains 17 items for one of my elementary offspring.

Why does a student need 36, #2 pencils? I remember 2 pencils getting me through the whole year. Additionally, a lot of work previously performed with paper/pencil is now done on school computers. With 36 pencils, one could write a lengthly manifesto.

Why does every student need to bring a box of facial tissues? If my kid is sick, he stays home. We are now taught to sneeze and cough into our bent elbow anyway.

Why does every student need to bring Clorox Wipes? If I wanted my child to prepare for a janitorial career, I would not send them to school.

It's not a stretch that we will be asked to supply toilet paper and floor wax in the near future.

Parents must now dole out hundreds of dollars for school supplies, participation fees, field trips, etc. These fees are beginning to feel like the "user fees" that airlines and hotels now charge us for bottled water, carry on bags, a blanket, and local phone calls.

I thought that our property tax money was supposed to cover public education.

I don't even want to discuss why 2 students that sit side by side in the same class could pay $25K or $0 in "tuition" at a public school.

In the end, I love my school system and the teachers. Just stop the incidental fees.

Bill me once for everything and be done with it. I don't care about the amount. I want an all-inclusive school system: supplies, field trips, pictures, etc.

The airlines have PEEVED me to a point that I no longer fly. Heaven help my children, if I get PEEVED enough to home school them.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the current Debt Crisis.

First off, this is a MANUFACTURED crisis. It didn't need to happen. We knew about the pending debt limit MONTHS AGO. It was also played up by the media with their 7*24 coverage and count down clocks. If the Casey Anthony jury could have just taken a bit longer to contemplate. their decision, there would have been no time for the media to cover this "crisis."

My other PEEVE is that no one has really put the severity of our debt into perspective. It is now $14 TRILLION.

People are defining the notion of a "Balanced Budget Amendment" as a radical Tea Party idea. The notion that you only can have expenses equal to your revenues is what EVERY person, other than our federal government, must live by.

This Congress and President have apparently come to some agreement. The bill that is proposed will do nothing more than to "kick the can down the road."

They propose a $3 Trillion Debt Limit increase with corresponding reductions in spending. Here is the problem. The spending decreases are against proposed budgets that were DEFICIT BUDGETS anyway.

It's like your wife coming home to tell you she saved $100. She bought a $300 dress for $200. Congress' math is that they saved us $100. REAL math says you save $200 by not buying a discretionary item.

Bottom Line. There is no reason why we should NOT have a BALANCE BUDGET AMENDMENT. It is long overdue and should be a no-brainer.

But again brains and Congress should not be used in the same sentence.

Why do 50% of the people pay no tax?

Why do 2% of the people pay 50% of all income taxes?

It is far overdue to implement a "FAIR TAX". A straight line consumption tax for anything other than basic food and shelter should be the model.

If something has a negative effect on the welfare of the people, i.e. alcohol, tobacco, ding dongs, then there should be a tax to offset the resulting health care cost for treating the resulting condition of said lifestyle.

Some call the current rhetoric and posturing by our current Commander in Chief, "Class Warfare". I believe historians 50 years from now, will not be so kind in their assessment.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is Civil War Re-Enactments.

This is a Grand Year for those Civil War re-enactors. It was 150 years ago that the War between the States began.

The top headline this past weekend was that many “re-enactors” from the Battle of Manassas walked away because of the intense heat and humidity.

Really? Seriously? How soft have we become?

These Re-Enactors should be called Re-Losers!!! I'm surpassed they were able to pry themselves away from their XBOX and find their way out of their Momma's basement.

The REAL soldiers had to handle heat, humidity, and wait for it, wait for it,…. REAL ammunition and REAL death.

They faced disease, infection, and worse. If they were wounded, they had limited medical attention, and no anesthesia or medic-vacs. A flesh wound could be, in fact, fatal. Many had appendages sawed off, where today the limb is saved.

These re-enactors are retreating faster than any Confederate or Union troops on record because of the weather.

It's a good thing that they didn't have to choose between a Star Wars movie premiere and their re-enactment battle.

One may argue that the re-enactment might serve a purpose to educate this generation as to who won the Civil War. But if you ever travel through the south, many state governments still proudly fly the Confederate Flag or at least they issue an replica to every pick-up truck along with their gun rack.

They may display the flag, but the Confederacy lost. It would be like Osama Bin Laden claiming victory because we spent trillions of dollars to find him in a country that is an ally. OK - bad analogy.

The only re-enactment that I would ever participate in would be the 1983 invasion of Grenada. Great War: one day, done by noon, and then off to a Caribbean Beach.

July 5, 2011- Casey Anthony Trial

The Casey Anthony verdict was delivered today. The outrage of this decision of the jury hasn’t been seen since the O.J Simpson verdict.
There are several factors that we must consider:

The BURDON OF PROOF was on the Prosecution. They must prove guilt, BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. This is the highest standard of any developed country’s judicial system.

The State Prosecutors may not be the best and brightest lawyers because they are paid the same, whether they win or loss. Defense Lawyers make money, and lots of it, based upon their success.

The jury only hears part of what we all see. If it is a sensational case, like this, they may only be selected if they have NO prior knowledge of the case. Lack of knowledge of current events, may make you pure, but not necessary a peer, or competent.

Additionally, they only see what the judge allows. Many times, the public sees what goes on in the courtroom, but THE JURY may not be present. Additionally, they may be sequestered, which also reduces the impact of outside entities (re. Media) to influence the decision.

You have to wonder if the media would have covered the tragic death of a black child, with the same veracity as this case. How many children die each year, without the media blitz provided to this case?

I have no opinion, as I did not watch or follow the trial. I was shocked that this single case dominated the airwaves, the internet, and social media.

The death of any innocent child is heartbreaking and unacceptable.
For those that believe in God and a higher judge, I would offer that eternal damnation will be far more severe than any incarceration.

No matter what verdict, no action can bring back an innocent life.

Treasure life, kiss your children, and celebrate life, EACH and EVERY DAY.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the obvious abuse of the "Social Media Covenant."

What I mean by this, is that some people just want to be your "friend" in order to sell you something.

I thought Facebook was a great way to stay in touch with old classmates and friends. Throughout my professional career, I had the great opportunity to live in other states, to travel to other countries, and to work with many companies.

However in my attempt to stay in touch, it seems some of these folks want me to lose weight, buy jewelry, purchase baskets, or find Christ (and give money to him, because apparently The Lord has financial issues.)

I am in the process of "de-friending" these folks. I hate the term, "de-friend", but I also don't like what feels like being "slimed" to quote Ghostbusters.

I'm not sure if the proper number of friends is 200 or 500, but I'm sure it's not 5000.

At the end of the day, I really only need 6 friends, or pall bearers. OK - Maybe 8 pall bearers, unless some my best buddies get in shape.

Hey wait, maybe I could sell them some of that weight loss stuff.

Once a salesman, always a salesman - JUST NOT TO MY TRUE FRIENDS.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about ANONYMOUS LETTERS.

I volunteer my time for various community and youth sports organizations. Nothing PEEVES me more than to receive an unsolicited, UNSIGNED, letter like this one.

"Your Organization needs to prohibit the solicitation of coaches' end-of-season gifts. Gifts are not part of the game. Coaches do what they do because they love baseball and they love seeing the kids grow. They don't need an appreciation gift at the end of the season. Each season I get nailed for $20 ("or whatever you feel is right") by some mom who has decided that the kids' baseball season is just another Tupperware party, which requires a meaningless hostess gift. Since I will likely see these people at future games, declining to give isn't a socially acceptable option. So I fork over the dough. I, for one, don't appreciate this "feminization" of baseball. Nor do I appreciate the obligatory "snacks" -- as if kids didn't get enough sugary, empty-calorie, branded garbage at home".

REALLY. If you feel that strongly about these minuscule issues, then SIGN YOUR NAME. You are nothing more than a coward.

How about getting out of your chair to volunteer, or at least to acknowledge the efforts of the volunteers, that have to double their efforts because you won't do your part.

When I began blogging and writing editorials for the local paper, I had to sign MY name to MY opinions. I accept ALL comments, good or bad. I only delete a comment if it has profanity.

My PEEVE is that today's social media has turned everyone into a critic without restraint or consequence.

If you don't want to STAND BEHIND YOUR COMMENT, don't share it.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about Public Displays of Affection (PDA).

It may have been cool at some point, but as a Father it bothers, or PEEVES me now.

Case in point, I was recently at a major Amusement Park in Florida. While I and my children were in the ride queue, there was a couple in front of us that must of thought the world was going to end THAT DAY.

They were kissing, cuddling, and groping as if they might not survive the roller coaster experience.

I'm no prude. I love to show affection ..... in the privacy of my own home or car!!! But not in PUBLIC.

I have always planned to have "The Talk" with my kids. I just didn't expect to have to have it as Disney.

But then again, Mickey and Minnie have been living in sin for years and Donald Duck refuses to wear pants.

Where are the Nuns with their rulers when you need them?

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is the controversy about the release of the pictures of a dead Osama Bin Laden?

In order to earn money for college, I picked up dead bodies for the local ambulance service. I saw gruesome things: drowners, flamers, vehicle accidents, and just people that expired. I think I can handle the pics.

But, I don't care if they release the dead Osama pics or not. Pictures will not guarantee that he is dead. I've seen photoshop pictures of Elvis playing euchre with Sasquatch, ET, and the Easter Bunny. It' is obviously a fake. Every one knows that Sasquatch only plays Old Maid and Poker.

Obama, even though he denies it, is "spiking the football."

Obama went to Fort Campbell to congratulate the troops. He went to the CIA to high five the analysts. He went on 60 Minutes to deny every thing he had already done.

Obama has done everything but mount Osama's Head above the fireplace like that 14 point Buck.

I feel that the American tax payers are due something. They had financed the search and subsequent killing of this terrorist.

If you go to a movie, you pay to see something. Why shouldn't the paying public be entitled to see the result of their investment. Of course, only 48% of the US pay taxes any more, so it may be difficult to only allow only the "investors" the chance to see the outcome of their investment.

My Pet Peeve is that we spend endless money and time discussing a meaningless issue.

This week's LOSER OF THE WEEK is Disney.

It's not enough that they make money every time you mention their name in a sentence, they have decided to capitalize on the elimination of Bin Laden.

Disney has filed a claim to trademark the phrase "SEAL Team 6" the special forces unit that was responsible for killing Osama bin Laden.

The application covers "entertainment and education services," "toys, games and playthings" and "clothing, footwear and headwear."

It remains to be seen what products will come of these trademarks, but the Bin Laden pajama set with footies has got to be a huge seller.

Disney makes so much money off of their core business. They should be ashamed to try and profit by prostituting the patriotic and heroic act of our Armed Forces.

Disney, you are my LOSER OF THE WEEK.

There is no PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) this week.

Yesterday was a historic day for the U.S. We finally found and killed Osama Bin Laden.

He died like the coward he was, hiding behind his wife in a hail of bullets from US Navy Seals.

President Obama gave an eloquent and patriotic speech detailing the mission. If I was "peeved" it was in the fact that Obama used the word "I" and "My" words a bit much. He did not thank the Bush Administration for their efforts.It came to light today that the event would have not occurred without the intelligence that was gained during the Bush Years at Gitmo using Enhanced Interrogation Techniques. These were all of the things that Obama campaigned against.

Obama will undoubtedly receive a bump in the polls because of his "Presidential" decisions during the take-out of Osama. He should.

But be careful. Bush 41 was polling at 91% during Gulf War 1 and Bush 43 was "unbeatable" after 9/11.

The electorate is quite fickle. The killing of Osama will do nothing about $4 gas and 9% unemployment. The 2012 election is a LOOOONNNNGGG way off.

Katie Couric is giving up her $15M/year reading job. She said, ""I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling. The Hamilton County Library offers "Multi-dimensional storytelling" jobs. You read to toddlers every Tuesday morning from 10-noon. It's been my experience that they do not appreciate it when you editorialize the materials. They frowned upon my "Easter Egg Redistribution" Analogy.

I had blogged about Katie in 2006 when she was awarded the CBS Evening News Reading job.

Katie went so far as to blame the local affiliates for her poor ratings. I wonder what will replace Katie? I would like to see the ratings for the old "TV Test Pattern." CBS could save $15 Million and regain my respect.

Katie Couric, you are my LOSER OF THE WEEK. Conversely, all the viewers, (and all of the CBS affiliates), will be WINNERS.

Why is Donald Trump and the media so enthralled with this issue? Why is it an issue at all?

No one can control their origin of birth. Why eliminate 6 Billion people from running our country. The origin of birth does not guarantee competency and intelligence. (Google: Carter)

What would be the outcome if we deselect Obama because he was NOT born in the USA? President Biden? Now that would really cause a me to rethink my citizenship.

Here is the current state of the country:

Tornados in North Carolina kill 24 people.

Floods and rain have cut power in several Midwestern States.

Gas hits $5.00 a gallon

Our President (and Leader?) decides to fly to California to participate in 6 fundraisers.

The First Lady decides to take Air Force Two to NYC to be on "The View". Her plane has to circle the airport while a larger military jet lands first and now there is a NTSB investigation.

I guess we will just "cling to our guns and religion" and hope for the best ... in 2012.

This week’s PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is EXPLORATORY COMMITTEES.

Today, Mitt Romney joined Tim Pawlenty in forming "Exploratory Committees" for the 2012 Presidential election. The only more obscene declaration was Obama announcing his reelection campaign last week.

For the uninformed, Exploratory Committees are what politicians form on their path to run for office. Exploratory committees allow candidates to “test the waters.” They are formed solely for the purpose of determining the feasibility of an individual’s candidacy for office. The activities of exploratory committees may include polling, travel, and telephone calls to determine whether the individual should become a candidate.

Here’s my PEEVE. I don’t want to suppport someone who isn’t sure they want the job as “COMMANDER of the Free World.” If they are unsure about this, would they handle Libya, Iran, and terrorism, with the same lack of tenacity?

Oh wait, the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue doesn't know how to handle these issues. I want my President to be forceful and forthright.

The best candidates are still on the sidelines. It's still way too early. I'm holding out hope for a man from New Jersey, and it's not Springsteen. -

"Mr. Lewis. Please cease and desist your use of Titleist products. Please do not wear Titleist apparel. Your performance as a golfer does not accurately portray the image that Titleist wishes to project."

Golf Season officially started for me this week. This is one of my favorite Golf Jokes:

He left home about 8:30 a.m. to play golf with his friends. On the way out the door he answered his wife's "what time will you be home?" question with "probably about 1:30, I'll have lunch at the club."

1:30 came & went, 3:00 passed, 6:15, still not home, finally at about 7:00pm he rolls in the driveway, leaves his clubs in the garage, and presents his wife with a pizza, and begins the apologetic story.

We finished our game about 11:30, had lunch, and I started home, when alongside the road I saw this attractive girl with a flat tire on her car. I stopped to help, got the tire changed, and looked around for a place to wash my hands. She offered money, but I refused, so she suggested that I at least allow her to buy me a beer. She said there's a tavern just up the road, and they have a restroom, you can clean up a bit. I agreed to stop, we had a beer, then another beer, then a couple more, and I realized that this girl was not only pretty, she was very friendly, and a good companion to spend time with. Before I knew it, we were in the motel next door having relations. And that is why I am so late getting home.

His wife looked him right in the eye and said "don't lie to me; you played 36 holes, didn't you?

March 1, 2011 - PPM - Wisconsin Only Plays Away Games

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the situation in Wisconsin.

President Obama said it best, shortly after his inauguration. "Elections have consequences. I won, you lost."

Well, now the tables are turned and the Democrats in WI and other places have forgotten this mantra. They decided to leave the state and shirk their duties.

I didn't realize Illinois was such a great travel destination in February. What was I thinking when I booked that trip to Florida?

What would happen if an employee didn't show up for their job for 2 or more weeks. Would they still get paid? Would they still have their jobs? Would they be able to DEMAND changes?

What is funny is that Rev. Jackson showed up and sang "We Shall Overcome?" Overcome what? Inflated pensions and benefits? My questions is where is Rev. Sharpton? Should we send out an Amber Alert?

If belonging to a Union is such a wonderful experience, why are their dues MANDATORY?

What is shameful is that no one talks about how the WI Education Union was the #1 political contributor in last year's WI election. Was this a good use of those MANDATORY dues? Oh course, it's about the children. The same children that had to sit home, while their teachers called in "sick" in order to protest.

I would recall and fire these cowardly politicians. They are guilty of fraud, malfeasance, and incompetence.

Forget the "union-busting" message that the media is promoting. If you have better ideas, run on them, get elected, and make changes.

LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET THE HELL OUT OF WAY.

A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde stewardess to take care of them for him.

She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning in a very haughty manner that he was a lawyer, and proceeded to rant at her about what would happen if she let them thaw out.

Needless to say, she was annoyed by his behavior.

Shortly before landing in New York , she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin, "Would the lawyer who gave me the crabs, in New Orleans, please raise your hand?"

Not one hand went up .... so she took them home and ate them.

Two lessons here:

1. Lawyers aren't as smart as they think they are.
2. Blondes aren't as dumb as most folk think.

I have accounting and finance degrees, but it really isn't that hard to figure out.
You have X in revenues, then you can only spend X in expenses.

Every government, business, and individual should have a BALANCED BUDGET.

Obama's budget actually went out 10 years till 2021. At no point did EXPENSES = REVENUES.

It is unbelievable that we are PLANNING to spend more money than we bring in for the short, middle, and long term.

We need a SURPLUS BUDGET in order to retire the $14 TRILLION NATIONAL DEBT. But instead, according to the just released forecast, it will be over $20 TRILLION by 2021.

Bottom line: Don't Call It a BUDGET document unless REVENUES = EXPENSES.

It should be referred to as the 2011 Obama Deficit Planning Document.

I was always amazed when they state that Obama's approval rating in Europe is 63%. Great. They didn't vote for him and they aren't affected by his policies or tax hikes.

How arrogant is Obama? He feels he has the right to ask Mubarak to step down because we give Egypt $1.5B a year in aid.

What kind of leverage does China have with the United States? As our largest shareholder, maybe they should call for a management shake-up at the next annual meeting. I wonder how Obama would respond to foreign intrusion into OUR internal political process.

He would denounce it, but that would be the pot calling the kettle bla..., oh wait, I can't say that, it might be perceived as racist.

In the end, all of Egypt's problems go way back to the beginning. It's all a pyramid scheme.

This week's Pet Peeve Monday (PPM) actually couldn't wait till next week. Earlier this week, the US State Department issued a travel warning for Egypt. It stated that all essential personal should exit the country.

So what happens next?

Brian Williams, Katie Curic, and Anderson Cooper hop on the next flight out TO Egypt.

No surprise, journalists are attacked and become part of the story. CNN's Cooper has been attacked twice. But then again, he probably deserved to be slapped at least once for his metrosexual attitude and wardrobe.

I'm just hoping Oprah decides to go over and do a show while the anti-journalism fever is rising. "You get a camel. You get a camel. You get a .....WHACK!!!"

The State Department updated its warning today, stating that if US citizens don't leave today, they will be on their own.

I hope they stay.

One dark night outside a small town in Minnesota , a fire started inside the local chemical plant and in a blink of an eye it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles around.

When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company president rushed to the fire chief and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be saved. I will give $50,000 to the fire department that brings them out intact."

But the roaring flames held the firefighters off.

Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now $100,000 to the fire department who could bring out the company's secret files.

From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby Norwegian rural township volunteer fire company composed mainly of Norwegians over the age of 65. To everyone's amazement, that little run-down fire engine roared right past all the newer sleek engines that were parked outside the plant.

Without even slowing down it drove straight into the middle of the inferno. Outside, the other firemen watched as the Norwegian old timers jumped off right in the middle of the fire fought it back on all sides. It was a performance and effort never seen before.

Within a short time, the Norske old timers had extinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200,000, and walked over to personally thank each of the brave fire fighters.

The local TV news reporter rushed in to capture the event on film, asking their chief, "What are you going to do with all that money?"

"Vell," said Ole Larsen, the 70-year-old fire chief, "Da first thing ve gonna do is fix da brakes on dat focking truck, you betcha!”

Jan. 19, 2011- Loser of the Week – Little Ronnie Reagan

This week's Loser of the Week is Ron Reagan.

No, not the 40th President, but his unappreciative prodigal son.

Ron Junior is coming out will a book, "My Father at 100: An intimate look at Reagan."

In his attempt to sell books he announces that he thinks his father has Alzheimer's three years into his first term.

Mind you, Ron Junior, has no clinical training.

I once saw Junior when he was performing with the Joffrey Ballet back in the 1980's. I thought he was a very talented dancer, but what did I know. I thought Xanudu would withstand the test of time.

The point is that I was not qualified to assess Junior's dancing capabilities because I had no formal training or education in the field of dance.

As such, Junior should leave his medical diagnosis to the medical professionals.

If Junior wants to sell books, I would he start with a "pop-up" or children's book. I believe that might be stretching his capabilities to the limit.

I would suggest if he has issues with his Mommy or Daddy that Junior see a therapist.

It's well documented that he became a Democrat to spite his family. Now he is trying to denigrate a true American Hero.

How sad.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the media's and the local law enforcement's quick blame of this weekend's shootings in Tucson.

The media was wrong from the beginning. They erroneously reported that Congresswoman Giffords was deceased. How terrible for her family and friends.

Then the media wanted to place blame on a political agenda before the police tape was in place. It had to be a gun-loving, right-wing, Glenn Beck watching, individual.

There's no way it could have been an unbalanced CRAZY person.

The media's rush to judgment is nothing new. It dates back to 1865 to the New York Times reporting that Lincoln was faking a headache in order to get out of going to the theatre.

The bottom line is that this is a terrible politicization of a tragic event.

If it were up to media, Sarah Palin would also be responsible for the Chilean mine failure, the terrible weather, and the fact the BCS doesn't have a playoff.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Additionally, the Arizona sheriff investigating the shooting had harsh words today for those engaging in political rhetoric. He called conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh "irresponsible" for continuing the vitriol.

"The kind of rhetoric that flows from people like Rush Limbaugh, in my judgment he is irresponsible, uses partial information, sometimes wrong information," Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said today. "[Limbaugh] attacks people, angers them against government, angers them against elected officials and that kind of behavior in my opinion is not without consequences."

This is the same Sherriff that said there were multiple shooters and misidentified the "heroes" that stopped the shooter. Hey Sheriff, here is some advice.

Get away from the microphone and cameras. Stick to policing and investigating. Then again, you don't seem to be very good at that either. You give the Barney Fife's of the world a bad name.

NEVER LET THE FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF A GOOD STORY.

Jan. 4, 2011 - Ohio State wins Sugar Bowl

The 2011 Sugar Bowl will go down as one of the best college games this year.

Ohio State 31, Arkansas 26

The closest experience I've had to this game was the 1997 Rose Bowl. Ohio State defeated an unbeaten Arizona State team on a last minute drive 20-17.

I took my oldest son, Zack, to the game.

The AR-Kansas fans outnumbered the Buck faithful by a 5-1 margin.

I've been to many bowl games and away OSU games through the years. I have to say that the Razorback fans have been the most rude and profane bunch I have encountered. It didn't matter if you are in the hotel, the casino, or on the street, they wanted to get in your face.

Apparently, Will Rogers never spent time in Fayetteville.

At any rate, the last picture tells it all.

Jan. 4, 2011- Sugar Bowl – Game Day

While attending the 2011 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, I connected with a college roommate, Curt.

Curt and I were roommates my freshman year at the OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY in 1980. We had had an unplanned reunion at the 1986 Citrus Bowl Game in Orlando. Curt was featured in a Where Are They Now W ednesday (WATN) blog.

If order to keep our streak alive of seeing each other every 25 years, we plan to meet again at the 2036 bowl when will each be 74 years old.

ESPN is projecting that Ohio State will be playing the SEC Champion, Arkansas - Bill Clinton Trailer Park Branch, in the Depends Orange Bowl.

Jan. 3, 2011 - Sugar Bowl - Day 1

In order to start the New Year with a bang, I flew to New Orleans to see The Ohio State University play Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. I took my oldest son, Zack.

I ran into some old friends and made some new ones.

My first encounter was with former Buckeye Coach John Cooper.

I asked Coach Cooper if he needed a pair of "Gold Pants." The pants are a memento awarded to OSU players/coaches for beating Michigan. Cooper was 1-9 against the team up north and maybe was in need. I had recently found a pair on EBAY. Coach Cooper declined, but he did agree to a photo.

This week's Loser of the Week is Bill Richardson.

Richardson was actually deliberating if he should grant a pardon to Billy The Kid.

In front of a national audience on ABC's "Good Morning America," the Democratic governor, on his last day in office, said that the legendary outlaw would not be posthumously pardoned. He said he had thought about it for the last 8 years.

REALLY?

No concerns about Illegal Immigration, not a thought about trade, never focusing more on your sexual assault charges?

Richardson is not alone. The outgoing Florida Governor just pardoned the deceased Jim Morrison on public indecency charges from 1969.

I'm stunned beyond belief that today's politicians have a deaf ear to the REAL issues: unemployment, taxes, infrastructure

Barrack Obama, for all his failings, got this one right when he threw Richardson under the bus.

This week's Pet Peeve Monday (PPM) is the NCAA.

Last week the NCAA suspended five Ohio State University for selling their own stuff in order to pay their bills.

IT WAS THEIR STUFF.

They were given the trophies and awards for their performance on the field.

How can Cam Newton's Dad basically pimp out his son for $185K and there is no punishment?

So if Terrell Pryor's Dad had sold his son's stuff, it would have been OK?

At what point does their stuff, become their stuff? Because if isn't their stuff then don't give it to them until IT IS THEIR STUFF!

This is the reason I didn't play college football. OK, that and a lack of talent.

In addition to the 5 game suspension, the players have to pay back the $1000 or $2000. Wait a minute, they sold THEIR STUFF because they needed money for food, rent, clothes, and yes, tatoo's. Now they must find a way to make more money, without selling any of THEIR STUFF in order to pay the NCAA.

This is the same NCAA that makes millions off of the games these players play in, and millions off of the licensing fees for games for XBOX and other video game.

Sounds fair.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is a left over from last summer.

We decided to take a relaxing trip to the East Coast. Every day was spent on the beach, relaxing, reading book, playing with the kids, or just watching them play in the surf.

However, one PEEVE was when someone would come up, prop themselves in the middle of your sight line of the beach AND your kids, and then take out their cell phone.Sure, I've had problems in the past with cell phone use in stores, restaurants, and in the car.
But COME ON PEOPLE!!!!

I've now trained my kids to identify rudeness and point it out.

You are on the beach, let it go.

The conversation goes on and on. I know this because they always talk extremely loud.

"Yeah I'm here on the beach, it's so peaceful and nice. Yousa should come here."

There is no limit to the level of rudeness that people display. You want to say something but it is just easier to send your kids their way with a frisbee or a ball. I only wish I still had my lawn jarts.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the state of our nation's finances.

You can't read a daily paper without hearing about budget shortfalls.

The City of Cincinnati has a projected $60 Million budget shortage in 2011.

Hamilton County is also projecting a record shortfall next year.

The state of Ohio has to find $8 Billion somewhere.

I won't even get into the federal disaster.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

If you a government, you must find a way to deliver only those services that you can pay for.

The pending deal between Obama and Congress is an egregious example of government gone wrong.

Taxes/ Revenues will remain flat, yet spending will increase. How is that possible?

It doesn't take a Nobel laureate economist to tell you that if you extend unemployment benefits for another 13 months, that people will not be searching for jobs in January. Unemployment will remain above 9.5% for the foreseeable future.

Credit cards give people the wrong sense of entitlement. They buy today what they want, but can not necessarily afford or need. Our governments have adopted the same mentality.

Credit cards should be eliminated and you should only be able to use debit cards that are backed with hard cash.

Of course, I would make an exception for home mortgages. However, there used be a thing called PMI that would penalize you if you didn't put down 20% for your house. During the mortgage crisis disaster that preceded and caused this recession, people were able to borrow 110% value of their house.

WHY and WTF?

These home buyers(?) were under water from day 1.

The foreclosure tsunami was predicated on bad loans, with poor decisions by lenders and buyers alike.

Home ownership may be a dream, but it is not a right.

Bottom line: If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is about the coming debate about the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

President Obama is being urged to bestow national monument status on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for its 50th anniversary in what some say would finally put the refuge's coastal plain beyond the reach of oil companies.

National monument status could put an estimated 11 billion barrels of recoverable oil beyond the grasp of oil companies forever.

Here's my PEEVE. If we are not going to extract the oil, let's sell the property. I'm sure the Russians, the Chinese, or even the Arabs would like to buy this oil-rich area.

Whenever a company is in debt, they sell assets to retire that debt. Sometimes they sell plants, they sell product lines, or they sell property or property rights. Microsoft was based on a PURCHASED intellectual property from another company. Bill Gates did not invent DOS, he bought it.

The United States is in a HUGE DEBT HOLE. The hole is probably deeper than most oil wells.

We don't have to sell ALL of Alaska, just the part where NO ONE lives, the Arctic Wildlife Refuge.

For thirty years people have been debating the issue. People were saying in 1996 that any drilling in the ANWR (Alaska National Wildlife Preserve) area would be pointless because it would take 10 years before we would have any additional domestic oil production. Well it is now 14 years later and we are in a worse position due to increased demand and reduced supply.

It's time to disband the Department of Energy (DOE). It was formed in 1977 under President Carter as a response to the OPEC oil prices. The DOW budget in 2009 was $36 Billion. Gas is over $3 a gallon in most places. The DOE was supposed to find alternative fuel sources. How is that going?

Dec. 5, 2010 - Another Anniversary

Today marks my 18th wedding anniversary.

When I asked Heidi about what was the secret to the longevity of our relationship when so many others fail. She replied, “Low Expectations.”

In all seriousness, she has been a great partner, wife, and mother.

Someone once asked me what it was like to be married to the perfect spouse. I replied, “I don’t know, ask my wife.”

Here we are at our sunny, outdoor, Sacramento wedding, December 5, 1992.

Today it is 25 degrees, there is snow on the ground, we live in Ohio, and I wouldn't change a thing.

Dec. 4, 2010 – Loser of the Week – Julian Assange

This week's Loser of the Week is Julian Assange. I'm not sure which is worse: a terrorist or a rapist. Looks like WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has both bases covered.

Actually the REAL LOSER is probably the US State Department.

Assange released many sensitive and "Top Secret" documents through his Wikileaks web site. The Obama Administration says it can't be treason since he isn't an American. He is actually Australian.

But the plot also is thickening around Mr. Assange. He is currently wanted on rape charges in Sweden. He appears to be a man without a country, although Ecuador has offered him "safe haven." Personally, jail in a civilized country would probably beat Ecuador.

Assange has done nothing but put American lives in jeopardy, encourage terrorism, and disrupt possible diplomatic solutions.

In the old days, this release of secret, proprietary documents would not have happened. I'm reminded of some funny lines from the movie, "Dave."

Bob Alexander: I'm going to kill him.
Alan Reed: You can't kill a President.
Bob Alexander: He's not a President. He's an ordinary person. I can kill an ordinary person.
Alan Reed: Bob!
Bob Alexander: I can kill a hundred ordinary people!

The point is that the CIA (of old) would have booked Mr. Assange for on a one way ticket.

It was only 4 years ago that Russia took out Alexander Litvinenko on Britain soil. I wonder what would happen if Assange went after Putin?

Ironically, Assange looks a lot like another anti-American loser Bill Maher.Maybe there will be a case of mistaken identity, or maybe not.

Nov.22, 2010 – PPM – Don’t Tax or Tread On Me

This week's PPM is about the on-going Class Warfare that is being waged in Washington by our "Representatives."

Why are the rich vilified? Why is success an albatross?

We already have disparate tax rates. Why should one section of the population pay more for the same standard services that we all use?

Do the rich drive on "special" roads made of gold? Then why charge them more to use the same infrastructure?

Do the rich get a better national defense? Is there a special line at Krogers for those with more money?

Not all rich people inherited to their financial position. Some made sacrifices, went to college, took out loans. They made their money by traveling for business and missing some important life moments in order to eventually achieve a better life result.

Now, they are disparaged because of their efforts.

The Democrats are only concerned with the "Middle Class". This is pandering at its worst. They think that this will gain them votes. Their continued courting of certain minorities at the expense of others is wrong and should and will have negative implications.

Sixty per cent of the people get more out of the government than they pay while the top earners pay 90% of all income taxes.

Every one mentions that extending the Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthy will cost us $750B. No one mentions two things, that this is the cost over TEN YEARS. They also fail to mention how many jobs that will NOT be created because of the additional tax burden on small business owners.

They also fail to mention how much will the extension of ALL Bush tax cuts will cost the US Treasury? Wouldn't it be GREATER than $750B? Shouldn't the Middle Class be concerned about the national deficit as well?

Obama's continued "WEALTH REDISTIBUTION" plan will never make us all equal and eliminating poverty.
I firmly believe that if everyone started over with the same amount of money and same chance in life, that in five or ten years the stratification of the classes would appear again. The same people that are poor today would make up a large percentage of the poor tomorrow.

It's a matter of education, drive, and discipline. A prime example was the mismanagement of the "TAX REBATE" or stimulus checks some people received in 2008. Go back and read my blog about this issue and explain to me how I was wrong in my prediction. China was the only one that got a good deal out of this "Stimulus Package".

Growing up, I was no stranger to poverty. I spent more time in trailer parks than Midwest tornados.

I didn't survive poverty because of an international call to arms about the issue.

I overcame it because of a strong support system from my family and an individual drive to succeed.

The below passage is taken from Section 2, Article I, of the original US Constitution.

"Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.)"

According to our Fore Fathers, the wealthy should get a more proportional vote. Try that concept now.
So here we are some 220 years later with some people deciding that we need "Wealth Redistribution."

This is nothing more than CLASS WARFARE. This philosophy has never worked in the past and will not work this time.

Dare to dream. This was once the American motto.

Eva's 15 minutes was up a long time ago. She should join Phillip Michael Thomas and Andrew Ridgeley and perform(?) Dinner Theatre in Kansas.

If Tony and Eva can't make it work, do any of us REALLY have a chance?

Nov.15, 2010 – PPM – Lame Duck Hunting

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) concerns the Lame Duck Congress.

The elections were held on November 2^nd, but the new Congress doesn't take effect until January 2011.

Some would argue that the current Congress has been LAME already. They haven't passed anything but the ObamaCare that nobody wanted.

The current Congress had two years to consider the Bush tax cuts and took NO action. COWARDS.

There used to be a need to have a ten-week time lapse between Election Day and the swearing in of new Officials. This was due to the fact that horse travel was the desired mode of transportation. We now have technology and air flight.

In fact, the current Lame Duck Congress will only be in session for about a week because of Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is really just enough time to clear out their desks (see previous blog about Nancy Pelosi.)

Rather than allow for any Lame Duck shenanigans, I would suggest that we do the following:

Move the Election Day to Black Friday or the day after Thanksgiving. Nobody works that day. Set up voting booths at the mall and other shopping venues. There might be a flaw in my logic if all Wal-Mart shoppers voted and were not, surprisingly, adequately informed.

Congress would be in recess from the end of November through January.

On the first Monday in January, the new Congress would take effect.

This would guarantee an effective transition of power. It would also make all congressmen up for election to run on their record on Election Day.

A compromise would be to make any Lame Duck representative to go (duck) hunting with Dick Cheney. Any takers?

Nov.12, 2010 – Friday Funny - Computer Issues

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY comes from a Jabberwocker in Florida. It seems they have some unique computer problems in the Sunshine State. Technical Support,: "How can I help you?

FEMALE CALLER: 'Last night my computer started making a lot of hissing noises at me so I shut it down. This morning when I turned it on the computer started hissing and cracking, then started smoking and a bad smell, then nothing'.

TECH SUPPORT: I will have a technician come over first thing this morning. Leave the computer just like it is, so they can find the problem and fix it, or change it out with another computer.

When the technician got there, the lady showed him where the computer was, this is what the technician found wrong.

And you thought YOU had computer problems!!!

FUNNY #2:
Caller : Hi, our printer is not working.
Customer Service: What is wrong with it?
Caller : Mouse is jammed.
Customer Service: Mouse? ... Printers don't have a mouse!!!

Caller: Mmmmm??.. Oh really? ... I will send a picture.

Nov. 8, 2010 – PPM – Can You Hear Me Now?

This week's PET PEEVE MONDAY (PPM) is derived from last week's elections.

The country as a whole spoke loud and clear. The masses did not like the liberal Obama agenda. Over 60 house seats were flipped. The Republicans gained 6 senator seats, and countless local and state government's changed party control.

However to listen to President Obama last Wednesday and again on 60 Minutes on Sunday, he wrote off the election results to a "Communication" problem. The only communication problem was that HE DIDN'T GET IT.

But, Obama was not alone. Nancy Pelosi wants to stay in charge of the now, minority House delegation. She stated that they just didn't run on their accomplishments enough.

OMG, WTF, ROTFLMAO. Sorry, those are the only internet slang terms I've heard. However if you want to go old school, they better wise up ASAP.

How arrogant or stupid are these politicians?

Maybe we need a text vote like American Idol or Dancing with The Stars to send the message. Can they continue to dismiss the polls that detail the unhappiness with the larger government involvement, the unbelievable deficit, and Obamacare?

I hope that the next two years are not grid lock. I would hope that the Obama administration and Congress as a whole would tack to the right a bit and listen to the populace.

So the PPM is about MISSED MESSAGES and MISSED OPPORTUNITIES.

I'm not sure how the election results can be misconstrued or misinterpreted. Then again, I never understood how the Designated Hitter in Baseball was allowed to continue beyond the May 1, 1973.

Nov. 5, 2010 – Friday Funny – The House Guest That Won’t Leave

This week's FRIDAY FUNNY was inspired by Nancy Pelosi.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Friday that she plans to run for the House MINORITY Leader post when the new Congress reconvenes in January.

It's only appropriate that she lead this post since she helped to create it. On Tuesday, voters elected 60 new Republicans to the house, the largest pick-up since 1948 or since Tom Arnold met Rosanne Barr in that Iowa bar.

The latest chapter in the Nancy Pelosi saga is reminiscent of when I broke up with this girl who was living with me in California in 1991. She says to me when she is moving her stuff out of my house, "You'll never find anyone like me again." My final words as I shut of the door on her departure, "Well, I should hope not! If I don't want you, why would I want someone like you?" She never really got my humor, my sarcasm, and thankfully 50% of my stuff.

Pelosi wanting to stay around and in the public eye is the best thing for the Republicans.

If Harry Truman was still President, he would say, "The Puck Stops Here!!!"
